When Tuba Skinny arrived for their debut Australian shows in June, audiences were blown away by their authenticity, musicianship and charisma. The response to their whirlwind tour, which only included Sydney and Adelaide, was so overwhelmingly positive that the band are set to return for the Summer Festival season.
Hailing from New Orleans, and harking back to the days of Dixieland and the vibrant blues music of the twenties and thirties, the 7 piece brass band - which consists of tuba, trombone, cornet, guitar, tenor banjo, vocals and washboard – evokes the rich musical history of the city. Since meeting in 2009, Tuba Skinny has developed a cult following thanks to a viral weblink posted by Boing Boing, the international Swing Dance circuit and their explosive street performances on streets and stages across the globe.
Audiences are transported to another era; the band attracts the best dancers in town, as crowds gather to experience their sound and energy - even in the rain, Sydney’s Darling Harbour was transformed into a massive street party.
